This is Why You Should Stop Freaking Out About Mercury in Retrograde

Since Mercury is the planet of communication and going retrograde makes things screwy, launching a blog is probably like spitting in Mercury’s face, but I trusted the Universe and hit “publish” anyway.

If you are reading this, then the score remains:
Kristal 1 : Mercury 0

WHAT’S ALL THE FUSS ABOUT?

Mercury goes into retrograde about 3 or 4 times a year. Meaning that most of the year, Mercury orbits in the same direction, but once in awhile, the whole planet decides to change direction and orbit backwards for a bit.

According Angela Fritz at the Washington Post:

[Mercury’s] been blamed for a lost Japanese satellite, sporadic Twitter and Facebook outages (as if this doesn’t already happen every day) and countless at-work gaffes and relationship debacles…Mercury retrograde negatively affects communications, technology, business and travel. The Internet is telling you to not sign any contracts or important documents during #MercuryRetrograde. Don’t go on a first date. Don’t make major purchases.

While we’re making fun of this phenomenon, pay attention too! There is a bit of science behind this. If you want to learn more, click here.

Turns out this whole Mercury retrograde phase can be a good thing! Here are some examples of ways Mercury retrograde can help you:

  • You may find lost objects
  • Projects that hadn’t worked out before are now slightly altered and suddenly gain some traction
  • You find out that the job you almost took or that car you almost bought wasn’t a good deal after all
  • You discover it’s the very best time to clean out closets, living spaces, creative ideas, etc.

Mercury encourages reflection. In fact, mercury loves anything that begins with RE-

  • Reassess
  • Reevaluate
  • Revisit
  • Repeat
  • Redo

You get the picture. And just so you have some warning next time around, here are the 2016 dates for Mercury in Retrograde:

April 28 – May 22
August 30 – September 22
Dec 19 – Jan 8, 2017

Despite my optimism, you might still be feeling cranky about the retrograde. If you simply can’t take it anymore, I suggest taking some time out for Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that helps you to relax and reflect.
